- If you feel like wanting to help someone - help me :)
-
- Here is my problem - ANY VON (Voice on the Net) product, iphone, webphone,
- webtalk, Enhanced CuSeeMe32 (!!) , and so many more I have tried out.. they
- ALL used to cause the following: they made my MODEM hangup - but Win95 was NOT
- notified. the Win95 ppp 'Connected' dialog kept running. and to remove it I
- had to MANUALLY turn off the modem (A supra 28.8 external) - and click on
- 'Disconnect' a thousands time, even sometimes forced to CTRL-ALT-DEL to close
- it...
- Now recently I have found up that somehow Enhanced CuSeeme manages the
- best for me - I can manage to exchange words with my friends in chile (south
- america) , but if I go beyond a certain length of talk - I lose the ppp
- connection.
- I immediatly thought about the SOUND drivers/card. (Orchid
- SoundWave32) -=> So I just uninstalled the win3.x drivers, and installed it as
- a WSS (Win95 deteced it on its own) , and it added support for 'WSS
- SoundBlaster Emulation' ... good. Now Enhanced CuSeeme32 seems to never HANGUP
- my modem - but instead, suddenly I lose the PPP connection - the modem is
- *still* connected - but I am off the network. Pinging my own server , any DNS
- lookups are not-working.
- My System is composed of a DX2/66, 16 Megs of ram. External 28.8 with
- latest Rom, 16550AFN Uart on com2 - (it *is* on a seperate slot though) - I
- HAVE connected at 28.8, 19200 and even gone to 14.4 just in case.
- I have tried ALL sorts of Codecs. Iphone I have tried the 28.8 , 14.4
- codecs. With Enhanced CuSeeme - I am using the LOWEST codec - VOXWare
- (2.4kbps) - but I have also tried the 8.5 Digital codex. both as I said before
- *work* - but will make my PPP connection to *lose touch with the net* - again
- I have to turn off the modem - and click millions of times the button
- DISCONNECT - until Win95 acks the fact that I am not connected anymore.
- I put in cause the SOUNDCARD - as only VOICE APPS cause these losses.
- EnhancedCuseeMes VIDEO send perfect - and I can see my modem is sending the
- data pretty fast! (the video window displays sometimes that it is sending it
- at 28-32 kbps!)
- FTP uploads work at full speed (to my local provider) - with no
- problems. I can stream REALAUDIO 2.0 files with no hangups.. again - I JUST
- can't attribute it to any problems related with Com/modem. I can only trace it
- to Win95 and Soundcard.
- I have done my best for the sound card part - using NATIVE win95
- drivers.
- Win95 - well, it *is* hard for me to reinstall, but I can..
- (reformatting HDD though!)
- Another strange fact is the fact that I *have* been able to use Iphone - under
- Windows 3.11 , from CHILE to USA.. and now that I am in USA (and that I have
- win95) - i can't. Another *very* strange thing is that when I got here - the
- 1st time I used iphone, I talked with someone from Guatemala! I talked with
- him for about 5 minutes, and then suddenly the modem hangedup - I thought it
- was just bad luck. I reconnected, found him - and from that second on , I can
- never do anything, With IPHONE I get hanged up almost always AT the moment I
- am connected to a USER. With WEBTALK - I *used* to get hanged up at connection
- - but now with the new sound drivers, I get the connection - I try to talk -
- WebTalk displays 'TROUBLE' .. and pouf.
- Enhanced CuSeeME 32 is the one that seems to best work. It's the only
- one can really exchange some words without a connection loss.
-
-
- I am open to ANY comment/help - even questions. Even to say that I am doomed.
- This test is being cross posted to Modem/Sound/Win95 newsgroups and Mailing
- lists - and VON Mlists too - but *please* tell me anything you think about -
- don't think that others will have said it. PLEASE EMail your replies in
- addition to an optional posting.
